Our Commercial Solar Technicians are a vital part of our organization, and we take pride in hiring and training the best in the industry.
We are looking for a Solar Technician (Level I or II) to maintain all aspects (e.
g.
, electrical, mechanical, civil, etc.
) of commercial solar systems for the biggest brands in the world.
The Solar Technicians hired for these positions will have HVAC, electrical and solar experience.
The physical work locations will be Duke Energy's Solar sites within the Elizabeth City, NC area.
The Elizabeth City Solar Farm is a 20 MW solar project with over 100,000 solar panels.
Duke Energy may pay for your relocation should you live outside of a reasonable commute from the work location.
The Commercial Solar Technician (Level I or II) position is both the entry level and initial training level for the series.
This position will work under close supervision and in accordance with established safety and technical procedures, learn and perform increasingly difficult duties of a semi-technical nature in a specialized program.
This is a full-time, permanent position with significant room for advancement.
The hiring manager may elect to fill this position at the higher position level dependent upon a candidate's skills and experience.

com) RESPONSIBILITIES Always maintaining a high level of safety awareness Maintenance of Solar facilities by utilizing mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.
e.
, voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools) High voltage and sub-station maintenance Diagnose and resolve faults on solar equipment as they relate to mechanical and electrical problems Perform pad mounted Transformer switching in accordance with all Lock Out / Tag Out Procedures Perform corrective tasks on solar equipment Complete EH&S Documentation, Pre-Job-Briefs, and any other necessary paperwork (work order, timesheet, tool and PPE inventory, and additional paperwork as necessary) using Maximo Operate grounds keeping equipment including but not limited to weed eaters and lawn movers Work as scheduled during the week and on call as required by manager Willing to travel and assist other Duke Energy Sustainable Solutions solar facilities when needed.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Solar Tech Level I:
High School/GED Associate's Degree or Technical certification In lieu of required technical certification or associates degree - High School/GED and (1) year minimum of related work experience Ability to complete Initial Training at Duke Renewable Academy within the given probationary period of the role Solar Tech Level II:
High School/GED Associates degree or Technical Certification In addition to education requirement, (2) years minimum of related work experience In lieu of Technical Certification and (2) years minimum of related work experience - High School/GED and (3) years minimum of related work experience Solar Tech-1, Electrical Operator-1 A Level 2 will have achieved the required tenure and completed the required JPMs
Qualifications:
Completion of a Solar training program is preferred Electrical Operator - the solar site has substations that need to be operated Experience with multiple solar supplier technology Experience executing a safety plan in the field High voltage and sub-station maintenance experience Additional years of solar experience is strongly preferred Familiarity with mechanical and electronic testing equipment (i.
e.
, voltage testers, amp clamps, oscilloscopes, and various hand and power tools) Knowledge of electrical, mechanical, Meteorological, Environmental, Safety, instrumentation, and control knowledge Knowledge of heavy equipment for facility maintenance Ability to think critically and solve problems OSHA 10 certified (OSHA 30 preferred) Math ability in relation to electrical calculations (NEC:
de-rates, wire sizing, conduit/box fill, etc.
) WORKING CONDITIONS:
Valid Driver's License required Any travel to projects Operate equipment including but not limited to forklifts and commercial motor vehicles Heavy physical effort (usually lifting/moving up to 50lbs individually, 100lbs with a partner) Work at heights greater than 10 feet Work in various positions, including but not limited to stooping, standing, bending over, sitting, kneeling, and squatting for extended periods of time Exposure to mechanical, electrical, and/or other hazards Exposure to noisy, dusty conditions, chemicals, or solvents Walking, Climbing of stairs, ladders, and/or scaffolds Working in all-weather outdoor conditions (extreme heat, cold, wind, rain, snow) Completion of OEM or third-party technical specialty training program.
Must pass a background check, drug test and pre-employment physical prior to hire.
Field Mobility Classification - Work will be performed in various field locations, as needed, after the onboarding period.
However, field employees are required to live within 30-minute daily commute to their assigned work location.
